In accordance with the Law of September 17th, 1958 modifying that of September 14th, 1953 relating to the consular service, all consular officers manage in agreement with the civil code all issues relating to the Civil Status of Haitian expatriates residing under their jurisdiction (certificates of birth, marriage, and death). They perform marriages between Haitians, and deliver when required extracts of certificates received at the consulate.
Consular officers manage a registry of Haitian immigrants living under their Jurisdiction and are authorized to deliver passports to those whose nationality has been clearly established.
Consular officers exercise when needed a judiciary function: the legalization of signatures, and the issuance of official certificates to Haitian expatriates in their jurisdiction. They also provide when necessary legal assistance.
